Services Update and Channel Registration Info (May 15th, 2008)

We were unfortunately unable to recover the previous services database. Therefore, effective on Thursday May 15th, at 10:00pm EDT (0200 GMT), Channel Registration will once again be open for use to users. If you run into any problems, /join #anthrochat. Any registrations made as of now are official. Please be sure to re-register your nicks (/msg NickServ REGISTER [password] [email]). If you want any vHosts to be re-implemented, /join #anthrochat to contact an IRCop that can help you with that (A list of opers can be found on the 'Admins' page of the site). If you have lost ops in any channels since the database loss, contact those channels respective owners and admins for assistance with that.

We are sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused for you. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact us at the link below. Or you can /join #anthrochat to find an oper to talk to you directly. We really appreciate your time here on the network, and we are working to the best of our abilites to make your experience here as convenient as possible.

Anthrochat suffers massive data loss (May 1st, 2008)

I knew we needed to get a backup plan implemented for the entire server, so I set out to do just that. While moving data around and getting it in a more sane configuration in which to make backups, I caused a lot of I/O load on the system bus. Unfortunately, there was a rather nasty bug in Xen that didn't rear its ugly head until that kind of load is put on the system. It caused an I/O buffer (SWIOTLB) to start bouncing and doing disk writes to incorrect locations on the array.

The short of it is: Through a miscommunication, there were no backups of the services database, and we're attempting to rummage through the rubble that is our RAID 5 storage array and locate some semblance of usefulness. Meanwhile, we've attached a completely clean, new version of services (minus a lot of the modifications I had made to it) to the network and are allowing open nickname registrations, but oper-only channel registrations. If we can't recover a recent copy of the previous services database, there will be a later announced date when the channel registrations will open again. If you are a channel founder and need help getting your channel registered, join #AnthroChat and ask for help.

Anthrochat website V3 is born! (March 9th, 2008)

A new website has been built (as you can plainly see)! There will be a few new features coming once services have been re-written to keep our SQL server tables up to date. Until then, enjoy the same old content in a nice new, eaiser to read design!
